Workshop description

Precision health is about treating each person as an individual. Instead of choosing a treatment plan based on the way an average person would respond, we can use the latest science and technology to take a more personalized approach. By considering an individual’s genetic information, using digital health technologies, and focusing on quality of care, we can design a plan that will work for them — from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.

This workshop will train you to become a domain expert in the precision health field and teach you how to apply the benefits of precision health to your organization or personal life.

Options

This workshop can be taken individually or as part of available programs.

Who this workshop is for:

  • Healthcare professionals who can incorporate precision health into their practice

  • Scholars in the field who are interested in learning about the latest and greatest science and technology

  • Biomedical engineers who want to learn more about the expanding field

  • Non-medical professionals who are interested in learning about precision health and applying it to their organizations or personal lives

What you will learn:

  • In this session, we will discuss what precision health is and how it is different from traditional medicine. You will learn about population health studies and gain insights about the applications of precision health, from healthy aging to targeted interventions and personalized medicine.

  • In this session, we will discuss the role of genomics in precision health, using samples and reports. Other topics such as DNA sequencing, drug prescription, gene editing, and the latest technologies available for personalized treatment will be discussed.

  • In this session, we’ll cover a variety of digital health technologies, including DNA sequencing, telehealth, electronic health records, sensors, wearables, and more.

  • Learn how sensors and wearables are shaping our understanding of the body and influencing treatment for disease. In this session, we will explore current technology trends and look into emerging technologies.

  • In this session, we will learn about what precision nutrition is and how it can be used to develop personalized nutrition plans. We will focus on genetics, the microbiome, metabolism, and other factors.

  • In this session, we will discuss the role of artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing in personalization and precision health.

  • In this session, we will learn about the innovation process and the importance of keeping the user central. We will also cover outcome-based healthcare which seeks to improve patient outcomes and prioritizes quality over quantity.

  • In this session, we will explore what intellectual property is and how the patent process works. We will use various case studies to determine what makes something a novel idea and thus, a patentable product.

  • In this session, we will learn about data privacy and security and the role of cloud computing in the healthcare system. We will also cover various privacy rules and regulations and introduce the concept of privacy by design.

  • In this session, we will discuss health technology adoption by organizations and consumers.

  • In this session, we will consider how precision health can be used to help implement outcome-based healthcare.

  • In this session, we will focus on the integration of precision health science and technology with public health policy. Population health studies and pandemic preparation will also be discussed.
